The Appalachian Voices Business League is one of the largest pro-environment business groups in the country. We are committed to spreading a simple message to our customers, neighbors and political leaders alike: that a healthy environment is good for business.

Blue mountain vistas, a morning chatter of songbirds, rugged trails, ancient forests, and cascading waterfalls… these are what make our Appalachian Mountains and foothills an ideal place to live and a popular destination for millions of visitors every year. Our businesses depend on a beautiful and healthy environment that inspires people to live and visit here. Imagine what would happen to our economy if residents and visitors learned that many of our streams are too degraded to support fish, that the air is some of the unhealthiest in our nation leading to thousands of asthma attacks and premature deaths every year. What would happen to tourism if the gorgeous vistas of the Blue Ridge Parkway were so obscured by smog that there was little to see but a lifeless white haze?

Increasingly, this is the reality for residents and visitors of the Appalachians, and the cost to the economy in terms of lost tourism, lost workdays due to health problems, and decreased growth of agricultural crops are immense - currently estimated in the billions of dollars per year. This translates into real dollars for every business owner, worker, and landowner in the Appalachians. It also translates into a real loss in the quality of life in the place we have chosen to live and raise our families.
